As some of you might know residual (ScummVm for Grim Fandango and Escape from Monkey Island) has reach the point where grim fandango can now be played from beginning to end. As a side effect of this first release it is now possible to update the existing models and textures to make the game look better in 2011. A team are now looking at what could be updated and the most effective ways to do so. If you want to get involved check out the link below:

We're Back!
by ED on April 27 2011 at 9:04 pm

After 5 years of living through the dark ages I've fixed the FG.co.uk V6 scripts.

This means you can once again view all of the site's content.* I've managed to get the news and games sections working completely while the resources and features pages might have a couple of links in the admin sections that may not work.

Come and join us on the comments page to celebrate (If you can remember your account details)

*(Ignore that links button on the banner that hasn't gone anywhere since V4 of the site)

by ED on April 24 2006 at 3:52 pm

Sorry about the down time there guys. Went on holiday at the same time the hosting ran out for last year. Anyway we're now on a new server due to my inability to pay for lots of bandwidth while at uni. For this reason the forums will now be closed and I'll be looking at what to do about some of the downloads as I can only really host the sites pages. If anyone has any surgestions on the forum or possible file hosting comment below.

They broadcast on Oxford Student Radio every Monday, from 2pm to 4pm.

Games And Features
by Mr Flibble on February 19 2006 at 12:21 pm

These two new games were confirmed some time ago, only at the time the News script wouldn't allow me to tell all of you. Anyway, the news;
Simon the Sorcerer is making a comeback this year, with a new 3D adventure, scheduled for a late 2006 release. Despite the 3D graphics, the studio stress, "there will be no action elements and no significant change to the gameplay of 2D adventures."

Also, Broken Sword 4 has been confirmed with the tentative title, "Angel of Death". This game is also scheduled for a 2006 release. More Here.

Finally, GameSpot has this week released a feature entitled, "So You Want To Be An Artist." Sound familiar? Anyway, its Here. Gamespot also have a So You Want To Be A Designer article. Seriously, they're stealing my thoughts.

Vivendi Doesn't Strike - Space Quest 3
by hmoto on October 10 2005 at 4:10 pm

Once again, the Vivendi Legal team has worked out how to use their email. And has ordered yet another team to Cease and Decist the production of their fan game.

The team behind the up coming Space Quest 3 remake, whos website, used to be found here, apparantly recieved the letter today and has been forced to remove all traces of their website and their game from the internet.

In a time that many a hailing 'The worst time in fangaming history', or rather 'Teh Suxx0rs', we can only wait and see, who shall be the next to fall foul of these evil coorporations. No, I'm not biased.

Thats 3 C&Ds in just 4 days in case I'm the only one counting.

And so, speculation mounts once again. Why are so many games being shut down lately, when extremely few, if any cease and decist orders have been issued in the past few years? Lucasarts has in fact, in recent years encouraged fan made creations and mods for games like the recent Starwars Fan Films. It seems unlikely that they are planning on bringing these old licenses back to life after so many years.

Once again, we shall have to wait and see what happens next. Lets just hope that 'what happens next' is not more C&Ds, but Vivendi still has a lot of games left to shut down. Over the years, many of their classics have been remade, and sequals produced, and there are still many in production, it is anyones guess who shall be next.

UPDATE: In a recent turn of events, it turns out that Vivendi did not order the Space Quest team to cease and decist. The team merely used bad feeling towards the company, over the shut down of the upcoming KQIV, to get out of making their own game.

Most people seem to agree that this was the wrong decision to make, but there is no major bad feeling towards the team. Most adventure game developers would agree that it is a long and arduous task, daunting to anyone. It is of course the teams decision to stop making the game, but a slightly spineless get out? Who knows?

What Ho', Lucas Shut down
by hmoto on October 8 2005 at 12:55 pm

No, not that Lucas, Lucas Fangames.

Whats happening in the world. In the last couple of days Kings Quest IX shut down and now, Lucas Fangames.

The group, responsible for some of the best loved fangames out there, like Maniac Mansion Deluxe, have released a statement on their website, saying 'Recent events have forced us to shut down our web appearance. We would like to thank all our fans and supporters who believed in us and our dreams.'

It remains unclear whether this was due to action by the Lucas Arts legal department, or down to a decision made by the group itself.

KQIX shut down
by hmoto on October 7 2005 at 5:00 pm

Just weeks after the release of the trailer for the iminent fangame Kings Quest IX, the makers recieved a cease and desist from Vivendi, formerly known as Sierra. After literally years in production, this came as a shock, but not as a surprise. The team behind the game made it clear that they would respect any wishes of Vivendi and new that a C&D was always around the corner.

There is currently speculation that the cease and desist order may have something to do with a new, official game being in production, but this is only a rumour. The most likely explanation is in fact the release of the recent trailer, giving Vivendi a run for their money. Most fangames of the level of KQ IX are never finished, but the trailer and anounced release dat showed that production was near completion. We shall now though probably never see anything more than the trailer.

The official announcement can be found here

Kings Quest IX Trailer
by hmoto on September 19 2005 at 6:06 pm

You've seen Kings Quest 1 and 2 the remakes. Now the trailer of Kings Quest IV is available from Adventure Europe.

You'll have to register for an acount on the site before you can download it, and the smallest file size is about 40mb, so it isn't one for the 56kbers out there. But lets just say its very impressive for a fan made game.

So what are you waiting for? Go download it now.
